  • Overview


    The Systems and Operations Technician performs operations, maintenance, and repair of systems and buildings at company and customer sites.



    • The Systems and Operations Technician operates and maintains one or more systems that provide an establishment with such services as heat, air-conditioning (cool, humidify, dehumidify, filter, and circulate air), refrigeration, steam or high temperature water or electricity.
    • Duties involve:
      • observing and interpreting readings on gauges, meters and charts which register various aspects of the system's operation,
      • adjusting controls to insure safe and efficient operation of the system and to meet demands for the service provided,
      • recording in logs various aspects of the system's operation,
      • keeping the engines, machinery and equipment of the system in good working order.
      • treating water systems (boiler, chilled water, condensing water, etc) with chemicals and analyze for such things as acidity, causticity, and alkalinity.
      • drawing fluid samples (oils, lubricants, fuel, etc.) from equipment and perform tests or deliver for testing by others.
      • performing diagnostic tests and measurements on equipment
    • The Systems and Operations Technician may direct and coordinate activities of other workers (not Systems Technician) in performing tasks directly related to operating and maintaining the system or systems.
    • Need to be able to diagnose and repair equipment in a timely manner.
    • Work a rotating shift that includes 12-hour shifts on both days and nights, with some periods of being the only one on shift.
    • The ability to work after hours for service/emergency calls to maintain working equipment.
    • Communicate with supervisors/management as to job progress and issues of assigned work.
    • Performs general maintenance and repair of equipment and buildings requiring practical skills and knowledge (but not proficiency) in such trades as painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, and electrical work.
    • Maintain high pressure steam lines including but not limited to traps, strainers, expansion joints, insulation, and keep clear of vegetation.
    • Maintain air compressors maintenance plan.
    • Responsible for safe work practices and implementation of operational excellence.
    • Obtain safety permits and conduct activity hazard analyses.
    • Use and ensure good condition of all personal protective equipment.
    • Perform all other duties as deemed necessary by management

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  The employee must be able to walk, climb stairs, climb ladders, and occasionally work in confined spaces.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision and depth perception.  The employee should be able to operate a computer and have a least a high school level of comprehension and retention.


    The employee is required to practice, recognize, and interpret safety precautions and follow safety rules and OSHA requirements as they relate to the job.


    The employee is required to work in an indoor/outdoor environment.  Conditions may include noise, heat, cold, dust, rain and others. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.


    Consistent and reliable attendance is required.
