    JOB PURPOSE:

     

    A key to consistent delivery of Energy Systems Group’s systems and services is our attention to Engineering. Engineering can involve the technical support required to develop small installations to large, multi-million dollar projects. The Engineering Manager – Design is responsible for managing the activities of the Design Engineering group to ensure all goals and objectives of supporting the project development phase are accomplished. Engineering Manager reporting directly to the Sr. Engineering Manager-Design, will perform management activities for his or her direct reports on the Design Engineering team to ensure all development phase goals and objectives are met. The Design Engineering group also provides engineering support to bridge the gap as a project moves from development into construction, and the Engineering Manager is responsible for their direct reports supporting these efforts appropriately. He or she is also responsible for implementing standards and execution of process improvements within the Engineering team. Effective engineering management applies technical knowledge expertise, project knowledge, project management experience, people and communication skills, as well as management talent, in a proactive manner to ensure that our commitments are met on time, within budget, and at the quality expected by the customer.

    Responsibilities

    MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    • Manages schedules and budgets for assigned Design Engineering functions from initial sales support through project completion
    • Manages direct reports through the engineering process to develop the ECM scope of work, accurate cost estimates consistent with the scope of work, energy savings estimates based on documented calculations and assumptions. The energy savings guarantees will be evaluated to determine if they are consistent with the calculations and an understanding of their limited accuracy to identify risks to the guarantee.
    • Manages, directs and coordinates the efforts and personnel required to provide engineering support during the operations phase of the project including internal commissioning efforts, ensuring design intent from design build contractors, and submittal and engineering reviews.
    • Participates in the evaluation of staffing needs and justifications for the Design Engineering group with the Sr. Engineering Manager–Design to determine ability to support the business plan; participates in the recruitment process or assignment of engineering personnel, including outside resources as necessary; ensures smooth transition between engineering and construction.
    • Coordinates assignments of his or her engineering personnel, ensuring a level distribution of workload
    • Manages, directs and coordinates activities of his or her engineering personnel and consultants supporting those personnel to ensure documentation, ESG process standards and projects progress are on schedule and within prescribed budgets
    • Provides guidance and advice in the selection of the subcontractors and vendors to deliver the project per our requirement and standards
    • Coauthors a unique professional development plan for each of his or her Design Engineering team members, and provides avenues for those team members to gain the training and growth opportunities necessary to achieve this development.
    • Supports the continued growth and development of a culture of customer focus, mutual accountability, engineering excellence, and individual growth and development.
    • Assists in customer presentations and provide technical support as needed to support his or her engineering personnel
    • Manages the engineering learning program including Lunch and Learns and other methods to deliver new technology training to the team.
    • Performs all other duties as deemed necessary by management

    Qualifications

    JOB REQUIREMENTS:

    EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS and EXPERIENCE

    Minimum:

    • Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university with seven (7) to ten (10) years’ related experience, preferably in performance contracting in the delivery side; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Two (2) years’ management experience

    Preferred:

    • Additional related experience of Three (3) to five (5) years’ experience in performance contracting in the delivery side
    • Related experience with performance contracting in the Federal Market Space

     

    COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS

    • Excellent organizational skills and communication skills (verbal and written), with the ability to effectively communicate with people at all levels of management in ESG and the customer organization
    • Ability to read, analyze and interpret mechanical and engineering periodicals and schematics, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations
    • Willingness and interest in supporting the engineering group’s focus on mentorship and constant learning. Likely manifested in a deep knowledge and broad understanding of engineering principles, patience, adaptability, teamwork, communication and enjoys the role of an educator
    • Ability to compose and write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
    • Ability to review, critique and teach individuals on how to appropriately compose and write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
    • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
    • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and make informed decisions

    Occasional travel, including overnight stays, is required.

     

    Consistent and reliable attendance is required.
