The Technical Specialist position centers around a strong focus on operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing plant equipment and systems. The Technical Specialist provides technical understanding of and practical experience with the distribution, production, and components associated with multiple electrical, motor, water, air, heating and cooling systems. Technical Specialists operate, maintain, and perform basic repairs on most equipment and systems in the plant to which they are assigned. This individual will be responsible for following safety programs for all facility activities and equipment, as well as assisting and maintaining trouble call procedures for facilities. The individual in this role must work a rotating shift schedule, be available for call-in work, and must obtain a NIULPE Certification within one year of employment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must occasionally push, pull, lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee must be able to walk, climb stairs, climb ladders, and work at heights using proper fall protection equipment. The employee must occasionally work in confined spaces, bending, stooping, or squatting for indefinite periods of time while servicing equipment. The employee should be able to respond immediately to potential incidents within the plant involving remote equipment, which requires the ability to move quickly up and down stairs and/or across the building(s). The employee should have dexterity in his/her hands with the ability to effectively operate hand tools, power tools, and other equipment within the building. Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision and depth perception. The employee should also be able to operate a computer and have at least a high school level of comprehension and retention. The employee is required to practice, recognize, and interpret safety precautions and follow safety rules and OSHA requirements as they relate to the job. The employee must be able to work in varying conditions both inside and outside. Conditions may include noise, heat, cold, dust, rain and others. The employee must be able to work in conjunction with others. The employee must be able to communicate verbally to answer and place calls. Consistant and reliable attendance is required.
